DPS writing draft

Introduction: _________ is the fresh-faced, new pop artist that everyone has been talking about. The young girl from New Orleans has become the latest obsession for many pop music fans. 19 and already becoming more and more successful by the second. “I think it’s never too early to make your mark in the music industry” she has expressed her feelings about the lack of young singers like herself in the charts, and she wishes to inspire more young people to start their careers early. Her parents have said that ________ has always been very interested in music, not just listening to it, but also writing her own songs. As ________ plays 6 instruments, and performing in talent shows as a child, she has shown great dedication to learning more about music before creating her own album.

Q1: What is the meaning behind your new album?
“It’s about my journey to becoming who I am today” _________ life has not been a horribly difficult one. However, making a name for herself was the tricky part, as she was always recognised as the relative of the famous singer Shakira, and not the individual person that she is. The album is about her finding a way to establish herself as more than just a relative of Shakira. “I made my own career. No help. Just inspiration.”

Q2: Who were your idols that inspired you to become a pop music artist?

“There was no one specific singer that inspired me, it was a mixture of many singers, not just pop music artists, but from other music genres as well” The young singer has said that her music comes from a variety of inspirational singers. She enjoys all genres of music, but she felt that pop music was the right path for her “I connect to pop the most” Pop music truly suits her bubbly and creative personality.

Q3: Are you surprised with the success of your new album?
“Yes, I was completely taken by surprise. When I created the album, I had no idea it would attract the attention that it did” It seems that the young singer did not expect to become as successful as she did, her album was not intended to become so trendy. Although, ________ was pleasantly surprised that she had the support of so many people around the world, and that her fan base was growing so fast.

Q5: What is it like being related to a famous musician?
“It has impacted my career in a negative way” on many occasions ________ has been accused of using her famous relative Shakira to boost up her own career. However, according to ________ this is not the case, she has said on many occasions that she would never use her own family like that. “I didn’t inherit my success” she has proven herself to her fans with her latest album ‘Solo’, which shows her individuality and contemporary creation through music. “But its not all bad, she has given me so much advice and support with my music career” ________ has admitted that Shakira is a fan of her music, and has been very supportive towards her career, but the music is still very much her own.

Q6: What was your childhood like?
“My family always had very high expectations for me, it was hard to live up to them” ________ was put under a tremendous amount of stress, of course this gave her the right motivation to go on and do great things with her life

School Magazine Planning Sheet

What is the name of your magazine? What are the connotations of the magazine?
'Your Voice' or 'Voice' because the theme of my school magazine is all about clubs such as the school council, and getting your voice heard while in sixth form.
What will be your front cover story and how will you visualise this?
My front cover story will be a person standing behind a podium, as if she was about to say a speech, to let her voice be heard.
Who is the target audience?
My target audience is students in sixth form, between the ages of 16-18.
What sort of shot will it be? Close up, mid shot, low or high angle?
I am going to use a mid shot, however you will only be able to see the person on the cover from the shoulders up, as the podium will be covering her.
What mise en scene will be required for the photography?
Initially i wanted a dark background with lighting on the person on the cover, as i thought this setting would create a dramatic effect. However, i have changed my mind and i now want a light background, bright lighting for an uplifting mood. A student will be standing behind a podium, as if she was about to say a speech.
What would be your headline and how will it match the main image?
"Do you have anything to say?" "Voice your opinion in school" or "Let your opinions be heard"
These headlines all link to the main image, because the image is of a person thats about to say a speech behind a podium, a person who is about it let their opinion be heard.
What colour scheme do you want and why?
I want quite formal and professional colours such as: black, red and white. Or navy blue, white and red.

Student magazine cover 2

The magazine cover is effective because:

  • The title 'Student' is in big bold colours and it really stands out, making it easier for the reader to spot it.
  • The background is quite plain and the colour is mild, this this helps the title and the girl on the cover of the magazine to stand out.
  • The colours on the cover of the magazine contrast very well and they compliment eachother, this makes it look more pleasing and attractive to the eye.
  • The two parts in yellow stand out the most, as yellow is very bright compared to the other colours on the magazine cover.
  • The magazine cover also contains quite a lot of detail, such as; the price (£2.50, which is a decent price), the bar code and a link to a website.
  • The person on the cover is looking staright at the camera, thus engaging with the reader.

  • However, the picture of the model on the cover is not of the best quality, this makes the magazine look less professional, and hiints that its not a real magazine cover.
  • Also, i think the mild colour in the background makes the magazine seem a bit dull. A darker colour would have made it more dramatic. And a brighter colour would have made it more cheerfull and pleasent to the eye.
